The Rise in Heroin Addiction in Women
The bad news is, heroin addiction is skyrocketing among women, especially women in the middle class. In fact, from 2007 to 2013 there was a 150% increase in the number of people dependent on the drug. Between 204 and 2014 it grew by 60% among those with incomes of $50,000 or more and 62.5% among those with private insurance. One big contributing factor is that doctors are prescribing pain killers more than ever, like OxyContin or Opana, which are now considered “gateway” drugs to heroin. When women can’t get the prescription anymore they turn to buying it on the street. When they discover how expensive it is on the street, they eventually turn to the cheaper, deadlier option, heroin, at about a quarter of the price.
A Heroin Addiction Recovery Program for Women
Women who are addicted to heroin need heroin addiction treatment specifically designed for women, like you’ll find at Dee’s House. We are extremely concerned about this new wave of heroin addiction, especially because, the worst news is, deaths by overdose are also surging among women. And it’s also causing a surge in HIV and other diseases associated with hypodermic use. Another concern is the rise in the number of babies being born addicted. One reason deaths from overdoes are skyrocketing is that dealers often cut the heroin with a drug called fentanyl, commonly used in hospitals for pain following surgery. Fentanyl can be 50 times more powerful than heroin and up to 100 times more powerful than morphine, according to Drug Enforcement Agency sources. It’s stolen from doctors and hospitals, but criminals also make it themselves in illegal labs. In some areas, deaths caused by heroin lace with fentanyl are almost 180%.
We Focus on Long Term Success
Treatment for heroin addiction is clearly a different issue for women than it is for men. The key to a realistic heroin addiction treatment program is the focus on long-term success, not simply a detox. At Dee’s House, we’ve created a holistic program to help our client’s repair the physical damage that drug use as done to their bodies. But we also have elements that help rebuild the emotional damage. We help women find their way a healthy status for mind, body and spirit with a holistic approach that allows them to rediscover the joy of life and in themselves. The program for each woman is customized to her individual situation and needs. Most women who have succumbed to heroin addiction also have some other type of disorder, or trauma, sometimes reaching back to childhood. So, we create a program to treat not only the addiction, but to answer the causes that resulted in the addiction to begin with. It all starts when you call. So, call us today.
